He was born at Rockport, W.Va., the son of the late Isaac Taylor "I.T." and Louisa Ball Thompson.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a Pastor for 32 years with the W.Va. United Methodist Conference with churches and charges in Belleville, Pullman, Belmont, Poca, McMechen, Clarksburg, Bethany United Methodist in Parkersburg and Richwood.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Opal S. Burton Thompson of Parkersburg; his sons, Richard Thompson and Vonda of Goose Creek, S.C., Kenneth Thompson and Brenda of Poca, W.Va., Larry Thompson and Jessie of Ripley, W.Va., and Marvin Thompson and Gale of Hurricane, W.Va. His grandchildren, Donna, Richard, Robert, Holly, Angela, Benjamin, John, William, David, Meredith and Matthew. Nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Leslie, Lennie, Ernest, Hershel, Otmer, Omer, Russell, Elbie, Carol, Freda and Zelma.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with Rev. Kathryn Ambler officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
