Harvey was the son of Isom Carman and Frances Stephens. Brother of Mary Ann, Zereiza, James Russell, Piety Ann, Leslie Comb, Alexander, Daniel, John Green, Mariah and Ephraim Carman. iN 1873, He married Margaret Ellen Sharp. Children from this union were: William L. John, Allen Blue, Priscilla Wallace, Sarah Elizabeth, Henry Enok, and twins, Caleb and Joshua.

Harvey was a farmer, who lived on the Heard Ranch, Southeast of Princeton, Texas. He was killed by a team of run away horses on Main Street in Princeton, Texas. He had been over near Fitzhugh's Mill with a load of wood. As he was coming home, his horses became frightened and ran away. His feet were fastened in the wagon. This drugged him several yards. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and carried to the home of A. G. Leake. He never regained consciousness.
