Mrs. Ella Lorraine Rose, aged 69, passed away on January 6, 2005.
Kenneth Morris and Ella Borst were delighted when daughter Ella made her appearance on October 20, 1935. She was their first daughter, and over the next several years, the family would swell with the births of Kenneth, Robert, Karen, Jeannie and Chelvia. Life was difficult during this period, and Lorraine and her family moved around northern Michigan, looking for work on area farms. Lorraine did attend school, going through the 10th grade, which was not uncommon for the times. But it was necessary that she get a job to help support her family. Besides going to school and working, Lorraine was largely responsible for the care of her twin sisters, and when needed, the rest of her brothers and sisters. When her father died at the age of 49, it was even more crucial that she do her part to help the family financially.
When she was 17 years old, Lorraine was living in Petoskey, where she worked at Kellogg's Studio, owned and operated by Stanley Kellogg, a well-known Michigan potter. While living in the city, she happened to meet a young man named Gordon Rose, who also worked in Petoskey. After a period of courtship, the couple was married in 1953. Lorraine was 18 years old. Gordon was from Grand Rapids and that is where they eventually made their home.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Rose, son, Daniel Rose and sister, Chelvia Chipman. She is survived by her children, Darrell Rose, Brenda (Tom) Sova, Linda (David) Platte, Dana Rose; nine grandchildren; mother-in-law, Viola Lindberg; brothers, Kenneth Morris, Robert Morris; sisters, Carol (Larry), Karen (Dennis), Jeannie (Tom); brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Shirley Rose. Friends are invited to meet with Lorraine's family at the funeral home on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 12 noon until the funeral service. The funeral service to celebrate Lorraine's life will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Heritage Life Story Funeral Home – Alt & Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Dr. NW. Interment in Rosedale Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to the Kent County Humane Society.
