FLORENCE - Funeral services for Deacon Elliott Smith, Sr. will be conducted 12:00 noon Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Central Missionary Baptist Church, Florence. Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 4th in the Florence National Cemetery. He died on Friday, December 28, 2012 in a local hospital after an illness.

Elliott, the son of Ely and Rosa Malloy Smith, was born May 21, 1923 in Florence County. He attended the public schools of Florence County and was a World War II Veteran.

He was formerly employed with La-Z-Boy, S&L Railroad, Poynor Junior High School, Sears and the U. S. Postal Services. Deacon Smith was one of the founding members of New Zion Baptist Church where he served as deacon for more than 30 years. Later in life, he was one of the founding members of the Solid Rock Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health began to fail. He was also a member of West Masonic Temple Lodge #419.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings: Robert Malloy, John Smith, David Smith, Elizabeth Smith Jackson, Janie Smith Tisdale, and Mary Smith Mitchell.

Survivors are: his loving wife of 69 years, Isabella Addison Smith of the home; their children, Queen (David) Bolton of Stone Mountain, GA; Anne (Arthur) Brown of Lakewood, NJ; John Smith, Robert (Carolyn) Smith of Florence, SC; James (Grace) Smith of Summerville, SC and Ronny (June) Smith of Florence, SC; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; special niece, Hattie Mae Mitchell; special nephew, Major Leroy Mitchell, USA, Retired; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be from 1:00-6:00 p.m. today at the funeral home. Casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to service.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 854 Walden Street, Florence.
