Robert was born on September 25, 1926 in Osceola to Rolley Albert and Trella (Freed) Karnes. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Robert L. Karnes and a brother William Karnes.
On May 24, 1947 in Mishawaka he married the former Betty Lou LaCava who preceded him in death on May 30, 1997. Surviving are two sons, Larry (Mary) Karnes of Mishawaka and Ronald (Carol) Karnes of Osceola; five grandchildren, Frances (Steven) Haughee, Theresa (Christopher) Taylor, Douglas (Brooke) Karnes, Anthony (Sandra) Karnes and Thomas Karnes; five great grandchildren and two brothers, Donald Karnes of Mishawaka and Lloyd Karnes of Mishawaka.
Robert was a self employed Carpenter for 40 years before he retired in 1984. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country during WWII. He was a member of South Bend Snowmobile Club, De Amici's, BK Club, Good Fellows, V.F.W. Post 360 and the Elks and Moose Lodge in Florida.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23 in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 24 in Hahn Funeral Home.
