MISHAWAKA - Donald Vernon Karnes, 91, passed away in his residence on Thursday, March 14th.
Don was born in Mishawaka on October 15, 1921, to the late Rolley and Trella (Freed) Karnes. He was a Purple Heart recipient while in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of VFW Post #360. He worked as a Machinist at Wheelbrator's. He married Adalyne Johnson in 1944. He is survived by his three children, Linda Karnes Hall of Elkhart, Kent (Pam) Karnes and Keith (Terri) Karnes, both of Corydon, IN. He had 6 grandchildren (Melissa, Doug, Matthew, Noah, Joshua, and Jennifer), 4 great-grandchildren (Crystal, Madison, Mackenzie & Mason), and numerous nieces and nephews. Two brothers, William Karnes and Robert Karnes predeceased him. One brother, Lloyd (Virginia) Karnes of Mishawaka, survives. Don was a big sports enthusiast. He especially enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was an avid Notre Dame, Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.

Cremation will take place and his ashes buried on the grave of his mother at Fairview Cemetery.
