SIKESTON, Mo. — George A. Stevens, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at his home in Sikeston, Mo.

He was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Detroit, Mich.

He was married to Marlene Starkey Feb. 20, 1965, in Danville, and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Paul Stevens and Eric Stevens; one brother; one sister; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, Mo. Interment will follow with full military honors at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, Mo.

George A. Stevens, 85, died at his home Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.
He was born Jan. 2, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to the late John L. and Rose (Everett) Butler. He was adopted in Nov.,1928 by Marion & Maggie Stevens and they also preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to Marlene Starkey Feb. 20, 1965 in Danville, Ill and she survives of the home.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of the V.F.W. and the Crossroads of Hope Baptist Church.
George was a nursing home administrator in Wisconsin, Illinois & Indiana then moved to Sikeston in 1973 and was administrator at Sikeston Convalescent Center.
Besides his wife, Marlene, he is survived by 2 sons & daughters-in-law, Paul & Betty Stevens of Orange Park, Florida and Eric & Kathy Stevens of Sikeston; 1 brother, Russell Reed of Vancouver, B.C. and 1 sister, Elaine Wilson of Campbell River, B.C. 1 grandson, Shawn Stevens, was raised in the home; 5 other grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Anne (Stevens) Harper, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 11:30 am until time for services at 1 pm, Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. Rev. Rick Ramsey, pastor of Crossroads of Hope Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at 3 pm, with full military honors, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
