Nancy was the daughter of John & Eleanor Taylor Adams. When they died Absalom Adams became her guardian. When 16 years old she married Joseph Cummin(g)s Jr. in Lawrence Co, IL. Joseph died in 1848 in Lawrence Co and is buried there. In 1850 Nancy along with some of her children moved to Ogle County. She and Joseph were parents of 11 known children.
