Lafayette McClellan was born January 28, 1912 and passed away November 19, 2005 at the age of 93 years 9 months and 21 days. He was born 4 miles east of Roll to Arthur and Clara Beals McClellan. He attended Wild Horse School, Three Corners School and a school in Red Wing, Kansas. He grew up in the Roll and Strong City Communities. He married Dessie Griffey on April 12, 1940 in the Griffey home. To this union six children were born, Dale, Jim, Frances, Geneva, Lucy and Donna. Lafayette farmed and worked for Roger Mills County until he retired. He loved to travel and go on trips with his family. He loved spending timed with his kids, grand kids and great grand kids. Lafayette always enjoyed traveling with the Western Oklahoma wagon train and especially, when they camped and enjoyed supper on his place.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, parents, Arthur and Clara McClellan, one brother, Jesse McClellan, one sister, Alice Welty and her husband, Aaron, two grandsons, Orville Dee Harris, Jr., and Tony Porter, one daughter-in-law, Bonnie McClellan.
Survivors include two sons Dale McClellan and wife, Jeanette Sayre, Oklahoma, and Jim McClellan and Jo Ann, Roll, Oklahoma; four daughters, Frances Butler and husband Don, Leedey, Oklahoma, Geneva Dixon and husband, Darrell, Cordell, Oklahoma, Lucy Cunningham and husband, Brent, Roll, Oklahoma; and Donna Porter and husband, Billy, Reydon, Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were November 23, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. at the Red Star Church officiated by Dave McGarvey and Terry Beals. Burial was at Strong City Cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Cheyenne.
