One of the first English women to publish philosophical writings, she was born Jan. 18, 1658/9 to Ralph Cudworth, Master of Christ's College, Cambridge, and his wife Damaris Cradock. In 1685 she married the widower Sir Francis Masham, by whom she had one child, Francis Cudworth Masham. She was the author of two books, A Discourse Concerning the Love of God (1696) and Occasional Thoughts in Reference to a Vertuous or Christian Life (1705), but her correspondence with the philosophers Locke and Leibniz indicate her interest in these subjects went even deeper than her published works reveal.
