An artist who studied under the great french painters of his time, Prevost emigrated to the United States in the late 1840's and began his career as a lithographer working with, among others, Napoleon Sarony who would later go on to achieve photographic success of his own.
In the late 1850's, unable to derive a sustainable income from photography, Mr. Prevost spent much of his remaining years, teaching drawing, painting and physics.
An October 2018 visit to the grave location provided by Calvary Cemetery found no marker, confirming remarks given in a 1901 lecture on Prevost's career that no marker was there at that time.
