Russell M. Haney, 89, of Mt. Joy Road, Clearfield, died yesterday, Aug. 5 at 4 p.m. in the Clearfield Hospital.
Mr. Haney, active for many years as a lay leader in the West Side United Methodist Church and an ardent wrestling and football fan, was born in Clearfield on Nov. 30, 1987, a son of Austin and Ann (Rowles) Haney.
In addition to serving for more than 40 years as the church's lay leader, he also served 31 years as a lay member of the Central Pennsylvania United Methodist Conferences and taught the CIC Class for many years.
Mr. Haney retired after 43 years as an accountant for Kurtz Bros. and was a member of the Weilder Outing Club, had been a member of the Clearfield I.O.O.F. since 1917 and had been a member of the Mt. Joy Grange for more than 50 years.
Also, he was a 1905 graduate of the DuBois Business College.
Mr. Haney is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John (Louise) Hile, Mt. Joy, Clearfield R.D.; an Mrs. Andrew (Nancy) Lady, Williamsport. Also surviving are four adopted grandchildren: Russell James Thomas and Robert John Thomas, both of Yorba Linda, Calif.; Mrs. James (Mary) Sheesley, Indiana, and Mrs. Edward (Margaret) Kline, Mechanicsburg, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Alice Bumgarner, Warren, Pa.
Mr. Haney was preceded in death by his wife, Iva M. (Parker) Haney in 1963; one daughter, Rose Mary (Haney) Thomas and by two sons, Russell Paul Haney and Eugene Parker Haney.
Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Bennett Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. J. Paul Taylor officiating. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home tomorrow from 2 to 9 p.m. and until the hour of service Monday.
