Ernest "Ernie" Lee Kirchoff, 76, of rural Denver, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Ernie was born August 13, 1936, in Denver, Iowa, the son of August E. and Mary L. (Struckman) Kirchoff. He graduated from Janesville High School and then entered the United States Marine Corp. He served from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1959. On February 23, 1959, he was united in marriage to Ann E. Brown at the First Methodist Church in Glendale, California.

He farmed his entire working life on the family farm. When the couple was first married he worked for a few years as a sportswriter for the Cedar Falls Daily Record. He retired in 2001 as a supervisor from Weyerhaeuser in Waterloo after 37 years of service.

He was a member of the Iowa Bow Hunters Association and the Black Hawk Archers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ann of rural Denver, two daughters; Veronica (Chuck) Wilmot of Denver and Linda (Dan) Heath of Cedar Falls, two sons; Jeff Kirchoff of Denver and Scott Kirchoff of Readlyn, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, brother-in-law; Gerald Bruns of Waterloo, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, and a grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2012, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Janesville with Pastor Corey Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Harlington Cemetery in Waverly with Military Rites performed by the Waverly Area Veterans Group. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and for an hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
