Wendell R. Underwood 98 of Glasgow died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Barren County Health Care. He was born in Barren County the son of the late Elijah Edward and Ina Spradlin Underwood. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Beulah Carder Underwood and his second wife of 21 years, Mary Ruth Smith Underwood.
He was a member and deacon at Caney Fork Missionary Baptist Church and a former member and deacon at the Temple Hill Baptist Church. Wendell was a dairy, tobacco and beef cattle farmer, a former president of the Temple Hill Lions Club, served on the Soil Conservation Board for 26 years, a founding member of the Temple Hill Fire Dept. and a trustee for the Poplar Log Cemetery Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his antique tool and gas engine collection.
He is survived by 1 daughter Linda Kay Dickson (Rollin) of Glasgow; 1 granddaughter Jennifer Denton (Tony) of Versailles; 2 great grandchildren Seth and Meghan Denton; 2 step-children Janet Ruth Wilding (Richard) of Louisville and Terry Smith (Lois) of Portland, TN and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Walter Mitchell and Malcolm Edward Underwood and 3 sisters Anna Pearl Benedict, Edna Louise Bartley and Shelba Jean Lyons.
Funeral services will be 1pm Saturday at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Poplar Log Cemetery.
