In 1800 Pendleton Dist, SC, Amos Barnett and the elder John Barnett are listed on the same page as Isaac Steele when our John Barnett would have been 6 years old. It is very likely John, who married Mary Jane Steele, was the son of Amos who was the son of the elder John. The first born son of John & Mary Jane was named Amos and this name is found among many descendants.
Update, Mar 2022. Multiple DNA matches [12 and counting] indicates the above information concerning John's ancestry is correct. This researcher has long suspected that John was the son of Amos Barnett and Hannah Evans who were also the parents of Mahala Ann Barnett Winn. The 12 DNA matches are all in the descendants of Mahala.
By 1840 John and Mary Jane were in old Benton Co AL where they lived the remainder of their lives surrounded by their large family. (See Mary Jane's memorial for a list of their children.)
