David Wesley Gerberich, 64, of Falling Waters, W.Va., died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at his home.

Born April 21, 1948, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Norman W. and Emmie Fayebelle (Hines) Gerberich.

He was baptized at Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

David graduated from South Hagerstown High School.

He was a Vietnam War veteran.

David was employed at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va., for 12 years.

He was a life member of Williamsport American Legion, Disabled American Veterans in Washington, D.C., and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Martinsburg. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Williamsport, Md.

He is survived by his son, David Gerberich Jr. of Scotland, Pa.; a brother, Terry Gerberich and wife, Nancy, of Maugansville, Md.; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, John Benner.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Benner; and a nephew, Todd Michael Gerberich.

A funeral service will be conducted at noon Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Clark Carr officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, with military honors being accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard and Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42 of Hagerstown.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's name to Grace United Methodist Church, 712 W. Church St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
