Dr. Bass was born in Live Oak. He was a veterinarian and a farmer, who earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture from the University of Florida in 1933 and earned a doctorate in veterinarian medicine from Alabama Polytechnic Institute - now Auburn University - in 1935.
Dr. Bass worked for the state as a veterinarian in the Panhandle before returning to Live Oak to open Bass Animal Clinic. He belonged to various state, regional and national professional organizations. He served on the Suwannee County School Board for 10 years.
