Ann attended the Demonstration School at Sam Houston Normal Institute in Huntsville, and later received her bachelor's degree from Sam Houston in primary education. She taught kindergarten in Goodrich, Sour Lake and Port Arthur before moving to New London, Texas, in 1938, where she taught until 1941. In New London she met and married her husband of 37 years, Alpheus "Alf" Jennings Shaw.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alf; her son, David Shaw of Austin; her siblings, John Edward Parish, Jr., Jessica Russell, Joe P. Parish and Ruth Steffen Turner; her sisters-in-law, "Niki" Parish and Mildred Parish and her brothers-in-law, Milton Steffen, Grady Russell, Glynn Turner and Pete Harang.
A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Huntsville where six generations of her family are buried followed by a family gathering celebrating her life later in the year.
