Johanna was the daughter of Johann Carl Herrling and wife Susanna Maria Hoffstetter. She married Reiner Tammen on December 25, 1906 in Clara, Texas. They had eleven children: Carl; Agnes; Reinhold; Annette; Walter; Elmer; Emily; Edna; Kathryn; infant; Victor.

Sudden Death of Mrs. R. W. Tammen

Another mother has been called to her eternal rest. Johanna Tammen, nea Herrling was born July 23, 1884, at Alma, Missouri. Here she was baptized, attended the parochial school of the Lutheran Church and received her confirmation. When she was at the age of sixteen years the Herrlings moved to Clara, Texas, there she was united in marriage to R. W. Tammen. In 1914 they came to Broken Arrow. Mrs. Tammen was the mother of eleven children, one of which died in early infancy. She died Sunday afternoon, September 14, at three o'clock. Death was due to hemorrhage of the brain. She leaves to mourn her husband; her father, J. C. Herrling; ten children, of which the oldest, Carl, is preparing himself for the ministry at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis; three brothers, C. E. Herrling, Carl Herrling and Prof. Walther Herrling, of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and two sisters, Mrs. Theo Kaspar and Mrs. Reinitz of Canada. Mrs Tammen attained the age of forty-six years, one month and twenty-one days.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Barth Funeral Home. Rev. Geo. Hoyer of the Lutheran church officiating.
