Kurt Burris-He was an American gridiron football center. He played college football at Oklahoma, where he was an All-American and finished second in the 1954 Heisman Trophy balloting. In 2000 he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Burris was selected in the 1955 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, but he went to the Canadian Football League, where he played for five seasons. Burris had five brothers who also played football at Oklahoma, including three time All-American Paul "Buddy" Burris. Burris died on July 21, 1999 in Billings, Montana. He was 67.

BURRIS Kurt Bane Burris passed away suddenly at his home in Billings, MT, July 21, 1999. He was born June 27, 1932 in Nowata, Okla. and grew up in Muskogee, Okla. Kurt attended the University of Oklahoma from 1951 to 1955 where he played football for the Sooners as Center and Linebacker. Burris was named consensus All American as well as runner up for the Heisman Trophy in 1954. He went on to play pro football in the Canadian League for the Edmonton Eskimos when they won the Canadian Grey Cup in1955. He began his business career with Regent Drilling Co. in Edmonton, Alberta, later becoming president of his own company, Burris Drilling in Denver, CO. At the time of his retirement, he was president of Cardinal Drilling Co. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Don. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; three children, Kurt Major, Bryan Kyle, daughter, Mary Jane and five grandchildren; nine sisters and brothers, Martha Reed, Paul "Buddy" Burris, Pauline Stavely, Bobbie Norman, Vera Miller, Robert Burris, Lynn Burris, Lyle Burris and Pat Bellinger. A memorial service will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, July 26, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Billings, MT. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist are in charge of arrangements.
