Beverly J. Burke, 70, of Springfield died at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Care Residence on Sunday, December 16, 2012.
She was born November 6, 1942 in Dayton, TN to Jess and Reecie (Hall) Eakins. At age one Beverly moved to Battle Creek with her family, where she grew up and graduated from Springfield High School.
Beverly married Ernest K. Burke in Battle Creek on December 16, 1961. Ernest was a career U.S Air Force officer and from 1964 they lived in Darmstadt, Germany; San Antonio, Texas; Crete, Greece; Berlin, Germany and Tucson, AZ; and in 1976 he retired and they came back to Battle Creek. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest on January 25, 1989. Surviving are her daughter, Joanna L. (Edward) Udoetok of Mattawan; granddaughter, Krista Jean Udoetok; grandson, Keith Akan Udoetok; her sister, Helen "Polly" Morgan of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Beverly was also preceded in death by her son, Mark B. Burke on December 6, 1999; her parents and two brothers, R.J. Eakins and Jennings Eakins.
Beverly attended Life In Christ Ministries. She enjoyed traveling with her family, holiday gatherings and going to church. Beverly and her sister, Polly would take "day trips" together and would sometimes end up out-of-state before they were done.
At the request of the family, friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Dan L. Martineau at the funeral home 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012. Committal services will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
