George Walcott was a soldier in the Civil War, from Sheffield, serving in the Sixth Regiment, Company D. He enlisted on 26 Sep 1861 and was mustered out on 28 Oct 1864. Both he and his wife received a pension.

"George Walcott died Thursday morning, Nov. 17, after a lingering illness of heart trouble. Mr. Walcott was 73 years old, and for many years has been a respected citizen, a kind friend and neighbor. He was a soldier in the Civil war, enlisting from the town where he died and a member of the G. A. R. The funeral services were held Saturday at the house, Rev. W. A. Warner officiating. The interment was in the village cemetery." (Orleans County Monitor, 23 Nov 1910)
