Civil War Union Army Officer. He entered service on August 1861 as Captain of Company H, 81st New York Volunteer Infantry and later became Lieutenant Colonel. He was then promoted to Colonel of the 24th New York Volunteer Cavalry in August 1863. He was wounded in action near Fredericksburg, Virginia on June 18, 1864 and was captured at Poplar Springs on September 30, 1864. He had led an escape from a Confederate Prison at Danville, Virginia on December 10, 1864 and was shot by a Confederate sentinel, which mortally wounded him. He died a few days later from his wounds. His brothers Captain George Raulston and Colonel John Raulston served with him and survived the war.
