1942 - 2012

Matthew William Howerton, 70, of South Portsmouth, Ky., took his last breath on Earth and his first breath in heaven on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at King's Daughter Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was the son of the late Gus and Helen Reis Howerton.

He was retired from CSX Railroad and of the Christian Faith.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Raymond and Charlie Howerton, and four sisters, Ruby and Una Dillow, Erma Burke and Helen Burke.

He is survived by his wife of 50 Years Debbie Gallaher Howerton, and three children, Donna "Leo" McKenzie, Matt "Patty" Howerton both of South Portsmouth, Kentucky, Beth Ann "Charlie" Burton of Advance, North Carolina. Six grandchildren, Phillip "Christie" and Andrew McKenzie. Rachel "Nathan" Weddington, Brianna Howerton and Kadie and Adam Burton, and two great-granddaughters, and as he would say "Papaws two spoiled brats" Helena McKenzie and Rylee Crapyou, and two sisters, Roma "Connie" Cooper and Lois "John" Euton, one brother, Stanley "Bobbie" Howerton.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., with Rev. Maurice Pierce, officiating. Burial will be in Collier Memorial Gardens in South Portsmouth, Ky.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour on Wednesday.
