FRIONA — Wesley Eugene Ellis, 91, of Friona died Friday Dec. 14, 2012.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Friona United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kurt Borden, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Friona Cemetery. Arrangements are by Blackwell-
Mullins Funeral Funeral Home of Friona.

Mr. Ellis was born June 20, 1921, in Retrop, Okla., to Albert A. and Rosie Ellen Evans Ellis. He graduated from Anton High School in 1939. He served his country during World War II in the Army in Manila, Philippines.

He was a lifetime farmer, beginning with his father in Anton. He married Dorothy Faye Fite in Anton in 1941. They moved their young family to Friona in 1953, where he farmed continuously until the end of his earthly life. He was a devoted father, an avid sports fan and enjoyed horse races at Ruidoso, N.M.

He was a member of the Friona United Methodist Church and actively worked with his son's Boy Scout, 4-H and Future Farmers of America activities. His greatest joy was always his family and spending time in later years with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two sisters and the love of his life, his wife Dorothy, whom he was married to for 72 wonderful years.

Survivors include three sons, Michael Gene Ellis and wife Martha of Bowie, Lonnie Dale Ellis and wife Terri of Friona and Randy Bruce Ellis and wife Leann of Azle; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Nora Gonzales of Friona.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
