Mannen Clements Simpson was the son of Zachariah Simms Simpson and Elizabeth Pryor of Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama. On 15 April 1866, he married Samantha Jane, daughter of William H. Braselton and Elizabeth Ann Winn, in Fayette Co., Alabama. He is believed to be buried in New Hope Cemetery, along with his brother James Clements Simpson, but his grave, which was once marked, no longer has a marker. Following his death, his widow Samantha moved with their four children William Zachariah, Elizabeth Arabella, Lela Augusta, and Lula Jane Simpson to Jefferson Co., Arkansas.
