Mrs. Dosha Roundtree passed away
at the home of her son, William
Roundtree, three miles northwest
of Frankfort, Kansas on Wednesday,
August 11, 1896 at 9:20 p.m. She
was 93 years, 11 months and 1 day
of age. She had been in failing
health for many years, her decline
and death was due to advanced
age.
She was born at Richmond West-
moreland county, Virginia on Sept-
ember 10, 1802. At the age of
fifteen she moved with her family
to Hart county, Kentucky.
In April, 1820 she was married to
John D. Roundtree.
Mr. and Mrs. Roundtree moved from
Kentucky to Knox county, Illinois in
1830, there they engaged in farming.
In August, 1849, Mr. Roundtree died,
from injuries received by the kick
from a horse.
Mrs. Roundtree and children stayed
on the farm until March, 1868, when
they moved to Marshall county,
Kansas, and with the exception of
seven years in Pottawatomie county,
Kansas that have resided here ever
since.
Mr. and Mrs. Roundtree were the
parents of twelve children, six of
them survive her, Mrs. Patsy Edgar,
Clear Fork township, Marsahll county
Kansas, Mrs. Betsey Osborn, Frank-
fort, Kansas, Dudley Roundtree,
Olesburg, Kansas, James H. Round-
tree, Galesburg, Illinois, Mrs. Marc-
eces Howe, Henderson, Illinois and
William Roundtree, near Frankfort,
Kansas.
Mrs. Roundtree was a consistent
member of the Christian church.
In early girlhood she was a member
of the Baptist church.
Funeral services were held at the
home of her son at 4:00 p.m. on
Friday.
