Charles L. Albright, 61, of 410 S. Washington St., Mount Union, one of the area’s best know and dedicated firemen, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 1, 1978, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.

He was born on April 29, 1916, in Shirleysburg, the son of William H. and Louise A (Eisentrout) Albright. He was twice married, first to Hazel M. Hoover, who died in 1942, and then to Mabel Hetrick on June 17, 1943.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Kenneth C. of Hayward, Calif., and Donald C. of Williamsport. Two grandchildren also survive.

Also surviving are five brothers: Oscar J. of Mount Union; Roy W. of Camp Hill; Clifton A. of Wilmington, Del.; George S. of Waverly, Ohio; and Quenten T. of Newark. One sister and two brothers preceded him in death.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mount Union and of the Herman Smith Sunday School Class of the church.

He last worked on Jan. 13, 1977, having served as a brick inspector for the Harbison-Walker Refractories for 42 years.

A member for 23 years of the Mount Union Fire Company and Ambulance Service, he was secretary of the company from 1967 to 1970. He was also a member and past president of the Huntingdon County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, and a member and past president of the Central District’s Volunteer Firemen’s Association, he was chosen as “Firemen of the Year” on three occasions: once for the county, once for Mount Union, and once for the central district.

In addition to his activities as a firefighter, he was a prominent civic leader. A member since 1936 of the Mount Union Lodge 677 of the Independent Orders of Odd Fellows, he had served all chairs and offices of the lodge and was a past grand officer. He was presently serving as a trustee of the mount Union IOOF Cemetery Association.

He also served two terms as a borough councilman and was a board member of the Mount Union Primary Health Care Facility. He was a member and past president of the Mount Union Lion’s Club, and a member of the Mittel Appalachian Rock Club of Mount Union.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, from the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, The Rev. David Reams will officiate and interment will be made in the Mount Union IOOF Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. of Friday, and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the services on Saturday.
