Robert Carey Kendrick was born June 25, 1921, in Alva, to Van and Gertie Kendrick and died Dec. 11, 2012, in Oklahoma City at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 16 days.

Bob served during WWII in the 45th Infantry Division spending three years in Africa and Europe. After the war, he completed college and had a wonderful career as an educator, counselor, and coach. He was a favorite of so many of the students he taught or helped because he would go the extra mile for anyone. Bob was a big sports fan and enjoyed following his sons' and grandchildren's sporting careers. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He was a kind and caring man and loved his family without reserve. Bob was active in the Alva community serving on the Alva City Council. He also served as president of the Northwestern Alumni Association and as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church.

Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lorraine Herd Kendrick of Oklahoma City; three sons, Randy and wife, Lynda, Rick and wife, Dani, and Ron and fiancé, Gina Martin; five grandchildren, Kris and wife, Adrienne, Kara Anderson and husband, Matt, Dani Mills and daughter, Kylee, Lynnsey McFarland and husband, Daniel, and Ricky Kendrick Jr.; two brothers, Bill and wife, Leslie and Ken and wife, Nancy; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home of Oklahoma City. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday in Alva, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Alva.
