BREWER - Richard M. O'Brien Sr., 91, husband of the late Anne (Korbut) O'Brien, died July 16, 2004, after a brief illness. He was born April 8, 1913, in Bangor, the son of Francis M. and Ellen G. (Welch) O'Brien. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mr. O'Brien was firefighter with the Bangor Fire Department for 32 years, retiring as Captain. His life encompassed more than this however, as he was one of the first Maine members of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps, (CCC), serving with crews who managed forests and built trails at Acadia National Park during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Mr. O'Brien was truly a family man, a devoted husband and loving father.

Surviving are four children, Pauline G. Chaison and her husband, Paul, of Boca Raton, Fla., Rev. Richard O'Brien Jr. of Lawrence, Mass., R. Michael O'Brien and his wife, Joan, of Tampa, Fla., Christine E. Greer and her husband, John, of Brewer; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Richard M. O'Brien Jr., celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. (Bangor Daily News 7/17/2004)
