✞Thomas Franklin Williams✞
Thomas Franklin Williams is the 2nd child of eleven born to David Gable and Leila Estelle Smith Williams. These eleven children have been affectionately referred to as "Heaven's Eleven" by their children and grandchildren. Thomas married Tenney Ivey 23 Dec 1916 and raised seven children.
Thomas was a life long farmer and carpenter often using his carpentry skills to build houses for family and friends. He often worked along side of his sons whether it was in the fields, building a house, or tinkering into the logging industry or repairing an automobile. He was quite talented with his hands. He was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church which was near his home. In his later years he enjoyed walking to the church and back daily and it was during one of these trips that he fell, breaking his hip and he also sustained a closed head injury all of which eventually contributed to his death at Hilltop Nursing Home in Forsyth.
Thomas adored his grandchildren. He would often say the best part of having children of his own was the grandchildren. He had a way of making each of the grandchildren feel as if they were the only grandchild. He could be found most Saturday nights watching wresting on television with a grandchild curled up in his lap. He taught my cousins Carol, Sherry and myself how to play Mumbly Peg, which now people would probably find appalling a child being taught to play a game with a knife.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Thomas would probably say their lives were the better for having known him.
