Roberson was found dead Thursday in an oil tank on the Clark Ranch about 11 miles west of Water Valley. He was an independent oil operator and former mayor of McCamey.
Justice of the Peace E.R. Edwards of Sterling City said late Friday he still had not seen the results of an autopsy he ordered and had made no ruling as to the cause of Roberson's death. However, both Edwards and Sterling County Sheriff Jim Cantrell said they had no reason to suspect any foul play was involved.
Investigation surmise the victim possibly was overcome by fumes or suffered a heart attack while repairing a leak in the oil tank.
Roberson was born Sept 14, 1906 in Strawn and married Margaret Moore on Dec 26, 1936 in Andrews. He was proprietor of the Bluebonnet Restaurant in McCamey for a number of years. He has lived in McCamey since 1947.
He was a member of the McCamey City Council from 1954 to 1959 when he was elected Mayor, a post he held until 1963.
He worked 15 years for Big Lake Oil Co. in Texon and lived in Killeen before moving to McCamey.
Survivors include his wife: a daughter, Barbara Roberson of London England:
a sister, Mrs Susan Layne of Strawn TX: two brothers, Wesley Roberson of Strawn and Bethel Roberson of Weatherford.
