She was also past president of the Hauppauge Elementary School PTA, past president of the Hauppauge Council of PTA's, past president of the Hauppauge Scholarship and Loan Fund and was an editor of the Suffolk County District PTA Newsletter. Her adventurous spirit took her family on the road for summer vacations traveling as far as Alaska, Nova Scotia and even Mexico by car. In 1993 Dorothy and John moved to Pearisburg, Virginia to be closer to their daughter and her family and grandsons, Jonathan and Adam Vittum. During the summer of 2012, Dorothy went on the last trip of her lifetime when her son and daughter-in-law brought her, via RV, to Bemidji, Minnesota. More than anything in the world, Dorothy loved being with her family. In addition to her passion for travel, Dorothy loved animals, caring for many rabbits and cats as well as tolerating all forms of wildlife that her children brought into the home.
