Herbert R. von Dorster, owner of Dyer Company, died Sunday, 11 June 1978 at 9 p.m. at Lancaster General Hospital after an extended illness. He was 66.
von Dorster lived at 228 Lancaster Ave., and was the husband of Nellie Virginia Shue von Dorster.

In 1967, von Dorster founded his own corporation, the Dyer Company, importing gauges from Germany and retailing by direct mail in the United States.

Before that he had been an advertising executive with various corporations including Gilford Industries, Oberlin, Ohio; Nordson Corp., Amherst Ohio, and started as account executive with Griswold Eshleman Agency, Cleveland, Ohio in 1949 before moving to Buffalo, N.Y., where he was executive with Landsheft, Barber, Hefferman, and McMahon for 10 years.
He began his long career with Foltz-Wessinger advertising agency in 1939 and later enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as captain during World War II. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Foltz Wessinger until 1949.

Born in Bloomsburg, he was a son of the late Herbert and Florence (Beishline) von Dorster.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mary E. von Dorster , Mystic, Conn.; one son, Eric R. von Dorster, Boston, Mass.; two grandsons, and one sister, Mary Elizabeth von Dorster, Catawissa.
