Marie Ann Marquess of Rehoboth Shores, formerly of Coventry, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at her home. She was 86.

She was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Franklin E. and Agnes (Heaphy) Welch.

Mrs. Marquess was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Marquess Sr., in 1989.

She is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Rosemarie Wooters of Middletown, Carolyn McClafferty of Millsboro, Bernice and Raymond Stonebridge of Chance, Md., and Annette and Henry L. Read, with whom she resided; three sons and three daughters-in-law, James D. Jr. and Mary Jill of Fort Myers, Fla., John F. and Bonnie of Marquette, Miss., and Eugene R. and Letetia of Middletown; 36 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons; a sister, Mildred C. Blakely of Newark; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 4, at 11 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road, Bear, where friends may call at 9:30 a.m.

Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE, 19947.
