Mason City- Laura L. Austin, 54, of Mason City died Wednesday (January 19, 2011), at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.
A time of remembrance will be held at 12 O'clock noon, Saturday (January 22, 2011) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, with Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling, presiding. Inurnment will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.
Laura's family with host a public gathering at the funeral chapel from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of North Iowa.
Laura L. Austin was born December 30, 1956 at Mason City, the daughter of Charles and Donna (Freudenberg) Swanson. She was united in marriage to Roger Austin in 1978 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.
Laura attended Mason City schools. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1975, and attended NIACC and Hamilton Business College, Mason City.
For several years she worked at the former North Iowa Hospital as a medical secretary, and at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa as an admitting clerk.
Laura loved spending time with Carsyn. She was fond of all animals, especially her cat, Miles. An avid sports fan, she followed the Hawkeyes, Vikings, and Twins. She enjoyed playing tennis and fishing. She looked forward to day trips along the Mississippi River near the Prairie du Chien area.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristy Holland and her husband Chris, Clear Lake; her brother, Steven C. Swanson, Mason City; devoted friend, Marta Sheldon, Mason City; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
