DEXTER- Joy W. Stewart, 91, died December 6, 2012, at Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft, following a long illness, surrounded by her family. She was born November 3, 1921, in Milo, the daughter of Wallace and Lena (Murchie) Webster.

She graduated from Milo High School class of 1939, and attended the Kennebec School of Commerce in Gardiner. After graduation, she worked for the Maine State Police doing finger printing for the State Identification Bureau. After 2 years with the State Police, she enlisted in the US Navy Waves, and served in Washington DC at the Bureau of Ships, and became a mail carrier of secret files.

On October 27, 1944, she married Signalman 2ndclass, Malcolm J. Stewart.

In 1951, she and her husband moved to Dexter, where she helped him establish his optometry practice. Joy served on the board of the Abbott Memorial Library, and was a member of the Christian Community Church. Her great love was spending summers at their summer home in Prospect Harbor.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Candace Mills of Lisbon, Meredith Andrews and her husband, Robert of Hopkinton, MA, and Melodie Batson and her husband, Russ of Springvale; a son, Lance Stewart and his wife, Randy of Dexter; 7 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, including a set of twins, Cooper and Connor Vose, who were born December 1st. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Dr. Malcolm J. Stewart, OD; her youngest daughter, Amy; a granddaughter, Teresa Dow; and a sister Elizabeth LePage.

Spring burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter. (Bangor Daily News posted 12/6/2012)
