James Bowens II 'Joe' of Coatesville

James Bowens II "Joe", was born the youngest of three children to James and Mae Bowens on July 21, 1959. He passed away on Nov. 27, 2012.

Joe grew up in Coatesville, and spent most of his youth living at 10 Johnson Avenue in Brandywine Homes. It was there that he formed a lifelong friendship with childhood companion Andre Brown. Their bond provided support during the "coming to adulthood years' and lasted throughout Joe's lifetime.

Joe was a student in one of the first graduating classes of Coatesville Area Senior High School in 1978. He loved wrestling and very much enjoyed his time spent as a lineman on the football team. It was in high school when Joe met Keith Proctor; the two had a mutual love and respect of music and together established Doc Proc Productions, a successful DJ entertainment service catering to the greater Chester County area, including Philadelphia. Both Joe (DJ name 007) and Keith attended Lincoln University and became the resident hosts of Club Malibu in Coatesville for more than ten years.

Soon after this time period Joe's parents experienced significant health strains obligating him to stay close to home and change careers. Joe held many employment positions from working on the assembly line at Ore-Ida and Weight Watchers to working as a computer technician for Unisys. No matter the occupation, Joe had a strong work ethic and was regarded in that respect by employers. James Bowens II was a son, brother, uncle and most importantly, a friend who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Preceding Joe in death was eldest brother, Marshall Bowens and mother, Mae Hazel Bowens.

Survivors include father, James Bowens, Sr; sister, Shirley Maybank, her daughter, Tanya, son-in-law Patrick Mohan and their son, Ellison; son, Theus Maybank and his children Shariff and Diamond; sister-in-law, Ruth Bowens, son Brian, daughter Makeda and her daughter Davejah; aunt, Joyce Perkins and sons Terrance, Kevin, and Craig. Special mention to close family friends Geraldine and Patrice Proctor, cousin Steve Bowens, and Josephine Shepherd who has done so much for the Bowens family. Sincere gratitude to all of the family and friends who came to pay their respects. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday Dec. 8, from the St. Paul AME Church, 703 Merchant Street, Coatesville. Interment will be in the New Evergreen Cemetery Coatesville.
