THOMAS H. ABBOTT
The many friends of Thomas Abbott learned with regret the report of his death which occurred at home in Charter Oak Sunday November 22. He had been in failing health for about four years, but continued actively employed until the past year when he was forced to retire from active work.
Thomas Henry Abbott, the son of William and Sarah Abbott, was born at Vail on October 14, 1883, and the most of his life was spent in this vicinity. He attended the Vail schools and the Denison Normal and Business College. He later engaged in farming and followed that vocation until the past ten years when he was employed in road construction work for the county until his retirement.
On September 12, 1905 he was united in marriage at St. Ann's Church in Vail with Miss Barbara Marie Freml. To this union were born ten children: Florence, Mrs. Leslie Gary of Denison; Lloyd, of Vail; Mearl, who passed away in 1937; Corp. Leonard J. Abbott of the U.S. Army; Orville of Storm Lake; Dorothy, Mrs. Harold Hansen of Charter Oak; Donna Mae, Mrs. Raymond Creese of Charter Oak; Mary Margaret, who passed away in 1922, and Barbara Ann and Melvin, at home.
Besides his wife and children Mr. Abbott leaves to mourn two brothers and one sister, Edward Abbott and Mrs. Maude Slechta of Denison and Roy Abbott of Vail, and ten grandchildren, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
Mr. Abbott in a quiet and unassuming manner fulfilled life's duties toward his family and fellowmen. Always enjoying activity he was successful in his labors. He was a loyal friend and a thoughtful, obliging, helpful neighbor. He was a man of good habits, his conduct was ever above reproach and he enjoyed the confidence and respect of all who knew him.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 Tuesday morning, November 24, at St. Boniface Church, with Father C.A. Ahmann officiating at a Requiem High Mass. Burial was at St. Ann's cemetery in Vail.
The pallbearers were P.E. Gallagher, Frank Houlihan, W.W. Kral, Leo J. Miller, L.C. Osterlund and George Pieper.
