Staff Sgt. John Marlin Young, son of Mrs. Paul Kellerman of 107 Halyday Street, was killed in action in Germany Feb. 27, the War Department has announced. He was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Hilliards, Butler County.

He was with the 35th Infantry, attached to Gen. Hodge's First Army. In a letter home recently, he told how members of his unit were decorated for holding a line when the Germans staged their gigantic breakthrough last December. It is believed that he received the Bronze Star medal for this action. The citation which accompanied the award, which he did not reveal in his letter, has been received by members of his family. He entered the Army from Butler in June, 1943, and received his training at Camp Shelby, MS, and Fort Meade, MD. Prior to entering the Army, he was employed by the Steam Shovel Corp. in Phillipsburg, where in recent years he made his home.

In June 1942 he married Norma Gertrude Hovis, of Eau Claire, and she survives, with his mother; a son, John Parris Young; his father, Edward J. Young; and a sister, Louise Young, both of Hilliards; and a half-sister, Shirley Kellerman of Oil City.

The body of S/Sgt John Marlin Young, 22, of Hilliard, PA, who was killed in action in Germany Feb. 25, 1945, arrived in Franklin Friday afternoon and was taken to Barron Chapel. A number of members of the American Legion, Post No. 476, and the Jesse G. Greer Post, Veteran of Foreign Wars, escorted the body from Jamestown, NY, to Barron Chapel.

Services will be held in Barron Chapel at 2 pm Saturday with Dr. Frank S. McKnight, pastor of First Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.

Services in memory of Staff Sgt. John Marlin Young, 22, of Hilliards, who was killed in action in Germany Feb. 25, 1945, were held in Barron Chapel at 2 pm Saturday with Dr. Frank S. McKnight, pastor of First Methodist Church, officiating.

Sr. McKnight read the hymns, "Sometime We'll Understand," "Abide With Me," and the poem "One Nation Indivisible."

Interment was in Franklin Cemetery. Committal services were in charge of the American Legion, Post No. 476, and the Jesse G. Greer Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars, with the following members taking part: Pallbearers C. H. Cozad, Harvey Hawk, John Sabota, and Ray Andre; commander, R. J. Hendershot; firing squad, John E. Graham, Commander, Hugh Haylett, Edward Haylett, William Settlemire, R. J. Hendershot; color bearers, Wayne Sisney and David Haylett; color guard, Vincent P. Bunce and Clarence Hitzman; bugler Frank Riddle. C. H. Cozad Sr. presented the flag to the next of kin.

The following veterans escorted the body from Jamestown, NY, to Barron Chapel Friday afternoon: John E. Graham, Jack Sabota, Hugh Haylett, Vincent P. Bunce, James Matthews, and William Page.

Those who attended services from out-of-town were Edward J. Young, Grove City, Mt. and Mrs. Paul Kellerman and Shirley Ann Kellerman, Oil City, Harry Young, Hilliards. Mrs. Norma Sankey, Osceola Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Young, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Robb, Sharon.
