Mariah Mahan Golden was born March 6, 1851 in Naas County Kildare Ireland the daughter of Patrick Mahan and Julia Keogh Mahan.She had sisters Sarah and Annie. Mariah came to America and married Denis Golden April 14, 1873 by the Catholic priest in Watseka, Illinois. She and Denis became the parents to 3 daughters, Julia Maude,Katherine and Addie. Julia and Katherine's husbands died and the girls and their children came home to their parents. Addie died at her parents home at 238 Park Avenue Watseka, Illinois. Her children were raised for a time by Mariah and Denis. Plus Denis's uncle Mike McCrohan also lived with them. This must have been quite a work load considering the house only had 3 bedrooms. Mariah died August 17, 1916 from Chronic Cholecystitis at the home of her daughter Julia Maude Nixon Templin. She is buried in St. Mary Cemetery Gilman ,Illinois alongside her husband and daughters Addie and Katherine and infant granddaughter Katherine Hagen west of the road going into the main gate.
