Last Wednesday Sept. 20, just fifteen minutes after the sun had recorded the day half spent, occurred the death of Mrs. William Collins of Woodford. On the morning of Sept. 16th, she was suddenly taken with peritonitis. This being the third attack, all that medical aid could do was of no avail. She was attended by two doctors and a nurse was constantly by her side, and all that loving hearts and tender care could do was done, but no earthly power could save her.
With a Christian faith and surrounded by her husband and children she peacefully passed away with a smile on her face, for she knew all was well.
Sixty one years ago the 25th of September last, Johannah Michaelson was born near Christina Norway and in 1852 came to America with her parents, three brothers and one sister. On Dec. 22, 1868, she was united in marriage with William Collins and until 1909 lived without change on the farm near her girlhood home.
In this home five children were born, Mrs. Elmer Fritz, Lake Mills, Mrs. Charles Lancaster, Lamont, Barbara Collins, Peter Collins, Woodford and Henry Collins, Wiota. Her husband, all the children, three grandchildren and two brothers, survive, also Charles Oliver, who has lived in the home and to whom she has been a mother since he was a kid.
Wishing to retire from the activities of farm life, in the spring of 1909 the farm was rented and a home bought in the village of Woodford, where she has since resided.
Interment in the Wiota cemetery.
