Former Auxiliary for the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and Bishop of the Titular See of Gabae, Monsignor Hanna Kaldany was born in Madaba, Jordan, and was ordained to the priesthood on July 8, 1945. Assigned to the Archives of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and subsequently as curate of Jaffa, he obtained a Ph.D., in Utroque Iure Summa Cum Laude with a thesis on the internationalization of Jerusalem in 1955.
Vicar General of Israel, he was appointed Auxiliary for the Latin Patriarchate by Pope Paul VI, receiving his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Gabae on February 9, 1964, from Patriarch Alberto Gori OFM., assisted by Patriarch Maximos V Hakim and Domenico Luca Capozi OFM.
Professor of International Law at the Patriarchal Seminary, Monsignor Kaldany retired from Office on February 22, 1994. He passed suddenly away in Jerusalem after returning from confessions, on June 14, 1996, aged 77.
