Mary was the daughter of David and Sarah Davis Purinton. Various Windham records list the name Purinton with several spelling variations: Purrinton, Purrington, Purington. The family was Quaker. According to the 1823 Portland Directory Mary Rogers, widow, lived on Cumberland near Chestnut. That location, on the Back Cove side of the east-west ridge of Portland, would be behind the City Hall (as of 1998).
