LONDON, Aug. 23 [Friday] (AP) -- Phyllis Bottome, novelist and lecturer, died yesterday. She was 79.

She wrote 34 novels, including "Private Worlds" and "The Mortal Storm." The former reflected her deep interest in psychology. She also wrote a biography of psychologist Alfred Adler.

Miss Bottome was the daughter of the Rev. William Mac-Donald Bottome of New York and an English mother.
