Samuel Mack Royer settled on land he purchased on South Mountain, on the boundary between Frederick and Washington counties in Maryland, known then as Germantown, the location was later renamed Cascade. Some of the land on which Fort Ritchie is now located and on which Lake Royer was created belonged to him.

Children: Daniel Royer married Mary Elizabeth Eyler and removed to Indiana; Elizabeth "Lizzie" Royer(twin of Daniel Royer), married William "Augustus" Nichols; Jacob Royer; Nancy Royer; Susan Virginia Royer, married Samuel Mathias Nichols; John Royer, married Amanda J. Warbuton; Anna Maria Royer married John Calvin Miller; Theodore Samuel Royer, married Susan M. Moser; Alma Sophia Royer,married Thaddeus Allen Washler Sr.; Catharine Emma Royer married first, John M. Buhrman, and second George Lewis Alozo Fox, and Mary Jane Royer, married John Marshall Moore.
