Soviet and Russian geologist, (Eid Farman oglu (Kurbanovich) Salmanov. He is the discoverer of oil in Siberia, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, corresponding member of Russian Academy of Sciences (1991), Hero of the Socialist Labour (1966), Honored Geologist of the Russian Federation. He was born in the village of Morul in Shamkhor region of Azerbaijan. In 1937, his father was arrested, and had to stay with mother in the upbringing of three younger children. In 1954 he graduated from the Geological Department of the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute with a degree of mining engineer and geologist. Upon graduation he was assigned to look for oil in Kuzbass.
