Gerald "Jerry" E. Connelly, 71, of Fargo died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo.

Jerry was born on June 26, 1938 in Breckenridge, MN to Edward and Clementine Connelly. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1956 and served in the US Army for three years stationed in Frankfurt. After graduating from Brown Institute, he worked at radio stations in Valley City and Wadena before joining WDAY-TV in 1963 as copywriter, announcer, and weekend weatherman. In 1968, his life-long interest in films drew him to Los Angeles where he worked as radio news and production director and screenwriter.

He was married in 1975 to Lynda Long for 15 years with no children. They lived in Fargo from 1976 to 1984, where Jerry worked for KFGO and G L Ness Advertising and moved to Monterey in 1985. In 1992, he returned to Fargo working for Ness before joining Flint Communications in 1996, where he was working until his death. He freelanced as a narrator of films, video, and slide presentations. He is an author of a book, television and film scripts, radio plays, and several published articles. One of his screenplays received the 1997 first place award at the Monterey Screenwriting Competition. He was active in community theater in California and Fargo playing leading roles in five plays at Fargo-Moorhead Community Theater. FMCT produced his collaborative musical script, Maris, in 1997.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by brother, Donald (Roscella) of Minneapolis and sister, Helen (Gary) Wolf of Des Moines, five nieces and nephews and 17 great nieces and nephews, uncle, Melvin "Willie" Olson of Fargo, aunt, Bernice Lanz of Johnston, IA, many cousins and dear friends, and his faithful dog, Buddy. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society or Fargo-Moorhead Humane Society.

Memorial Service: Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 6pm at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
