Hans Madsen, long time resident
of Newell, passed away at the home
of his daughter, Mrs. Jorgen Paulsen,
Hampton, Iowa, Sunday morning
at the age of 71 years, 11 months
and 23 days.
Mr. Madsen was born at Borup,
Sjolland, Denmark, February 22,
1860. He was united in marriage
to Christiana Hansen in 1881. To
this union eight children were born,
two boys and six girls.
They came to America in 1887 and
located on a farm at Newell, Iowa.
Mr. Madsen was preceded in death
by his wife, three children and the
late Mrs. Louis Johnson of Neweil.
He had been making his home with
Mrs. Louis Johnson prior to her
death and this winter had been staying
at Hampton.
He leaves to mourn his death
four children, Mrs. Jurgen Paulsen
of Hampton, Iowa, Mrs. Peter Kladstrup,
Chris Madsen and Andrew
Madsen, all of Newell.
Funeral services were held in the
Danish Lutheran church in Newell
Wednesday afternoon, in charge of
the Rev. Hakon Jorgensen. Miss
Esther Bodholdt played the organ
The body was laid to rest by the
side of his wife in Newell cemetery
