Mrs Laura Skow, the daughter
of Peter and Hylleborg Jensen,
was born November 27, 1880
at Grinsted, Jylland. Denmark.
In the spring of 1905 she came
to the United States to work a
Alta, Iowa On December 13,
1905. she was married to Oscar
Skow. They spent their first three
years of married life on a farm
In 1905 they moved to Storm
Lake, Iowa and in 1915 they
moved to Newell, Iowa. To them
were born seven ohildren, three
of whom preceded Mrs. Skow in
death Mr. Skow died March 15,
1944. Mrs Skow has since lived
in Newell, except for the winter
of '44-'45 which she spent in California
and also an extended visit
to Denmark in the winter and
spring of 1949 and 1950.
The family which remains includes
her daughters. Mrs Winnie
Combes of Spirit Lake, Iowa;
Esther (Mrs. Leonell Stephan)
of Storm Lake, and Velma (Mrs.
DeWayne Godfrey) now in Hawaii,
her son, Master Sgt Howard Skow of
Rockford, Ill. and
eight grandchildren. She also has
six sisters and one brother living ni
Denmark.
At the age of seventy years,
eleven months and twenty-five
days, death came to Mrs Skow
last Thursday afternoon at about
five o'clock at the Leonell Stephan
home in Storm Lake, following
a stroke six days before.
